Tests and compares EWA apps on advance limits, fees, and funding speed.
About us
We test and rank earned wage access apps so you can find the right one for your paycheck, without wading through marketing claims. We work for the reader, not the apps.
compareEWA is an independent comparison and review site for earned wage access (EWA) apps, the services that let you draw part of the pay you have already earned before payday. We rank the leading apps, review each one in depth, and publish plain-language guides on how EWA works and how to manage cash flow between paychecks.
We started compareEWA because this category is confusing on purpose. Apps advertise "free" advances that quietly cost money, bury their fees behind optional tips, and cap real limits far below the number on the homepage. Someone needs to test them the same way, on the same criteria, and say plainly what each one is good and bad at. That is the job we set out to do.
We want to be clear about this, because it matters. compareEWA is not an EWA provider, a lender, a bank, or an employer. We do not advance wages, lend money, or make any credit or eligibility decision. We do not provide personalized financial, legal, or tax advice. Everything we publish is general education to help you compare your options and decide for yourself. The apps we review are run by separate companies, and their names and logos belong to them. We review them independently and are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any of them.
Every app is scored on the same six criteria: the maximum advance and how realistic it is for a first-time user, the true cost once you count subscriptions, express fees, and tips, funding speed and what instant delivery costs, eligibility and availability (including whether an app is open to anyone or gated behind an employer), app-store ratings and the pattern of real complaints, and overall value. We test with our own money, and no company can pay to rank higher. When an app changes its fees or features, we retest and update the order.
compareEWA is free to read. We may earn a commission when you sign up for some of the apps through our links, and that compensation can affect which apps are listed and where they appear. It never changes how we test or score an app, and our rankings always reflect our honest editorial assessment. You can read the full detail on our disclosure page.
We cite real, authoritative sources: the CFPB, federal and state regulators, and each app's own published terms. We do not invent statistics, and we flag figures that are approximate or still being decided. When a rule or a lawsuit is unresolved, we say so rather than pretending the picture is tidier than it is. If we get something wrong, we fix it.
